    <p>Thanks for flagging this up to us.</p>

    <p>It seems the public DB is struggling now: I can sadly confirm

      "show databases" takes well over a minute to return, and

      "ping_ensembl.pl" script (you can find it under "misc_scripts" in

      the "ensembl" repo) takes about the same ... which makes sense as

      it does sort-of the same.</p>

    <p>For the time being to speed up the registry loading, I'd suggest

      to switch verbose off and - if you can - to use the "-species"

      argument.</p>

    <p>Meanwhile, I'll have someone looking into the performance issue.</p>
